How the Ground Rod Works

Grounding rods are commonly used grounding materials in lightning protection grounding projects; people are often attacked by lightning in daily life. People's protection against lightning is basically to install lightning rods outdoors, and then direct the attacking lightning energy into the ground. In this way, the damage of lightning is prevented. It can be seen that how to leak lightning energy into the ground is a very important part of the entire lightning protection system.
The main function of the ground rod is to allow the current to leak into the ground smoothly by contacting the conductor with the ground. There are many different methods of grounding rods according to different classifications, but the commonly used ground rods are copper-clad steel grounding rods and pure copper grounding rods; copper-clad steel grounding rods are electroplated with a layer of copper on the outside of the steel core, so that the copper A steel ground rod will have both steel and copper properties. Compared with the copper clad steel ground rod, the performance of the pure copper ground rod is good, but the price of the pure copper ground rod is too expensive and the texture is too soft, so it is not easy to penetrate into the ground. The performance is better.
The application range of copper-clad steel ground rods is also very wide. It can be used in general environments, and it can also be used in humid, saline and acidic soil conditions. If the conductivity of the soil cannot meet the requirements, it can be used. The grounding requirements are met by increasing the grounding depth.
In many soils, the active electrolytic ion compounds are scarce, and the simple grounding body cannot meet the grounding requirements, so a reversible slow-release filler is added to the grounding rod. The characteristics of this filler are that it can absorb water, release water, and be reversible. In this way, the ambient temperature in the shell is effectively guaranteed, and the stability of the grounding resistance is ensured. The filler does not have any toxic and side effects, and it cooperates with the metal electrode to achieve good results in the generation of ions and the prevention of copper alloy corrosion, improve the soil quality of the soil, and meet the requirements of grounding.
