Pure Copper Grounding Rod

Resistivity of copper and steel in 20 ℃ respectively is 17.24 x 10-6 (Ω mm) and 138 x 10-6 (Ω mm). If the conductivity of the copper is 100%, the conductivity of the standard 1020 steel is only 10.8%, the conductivity of the galvanized steel is only 8.6%, so the conductivity of the copper is about 10 times of steel.

Pure copper ground rod is the best ground rod, can use H90, H70, H68, a variety of specifications H65 and H62 brass to make ground rod body, suitable for the use of lightning protection conductive to demand higher occasion.

Does using pure copper ground rods have any impact on cost or maintenance frequency?

Xinchang TuAn Machinery Co., Ltd. Using pure copper ground rods does have an impact on cost and maintenance frequency.
Material Costs: Pure copper is significantly more expensive than steel or copper-clad alternatives. The high cost of copper itself increases the overall cost of pure copper grounding rods, especially when compared to steel or galvanized steel rods.
Installation Costs: Although installation processes for pure copper grounding rods are typically similar across materials, pure copper rods may require additional care to avoid bending or damage during installation due to their softer nature compared to steel.
As a result, the upfront investment for pure copper rods is usually higher, making them less cost-effective in situations where lower-cost alternatives, like copper-clad or galvanized steel, can perform adequately.
Corrosion Resistance: Pure copper has excellent corrosion resistance, especially in environments with high moisture or corrosive chemicals (like those found in industrial or coastal regions). This resistance means that pure copper rods typically require less frequent replacement or maintenance than steel or galvanized options, which are more susceptible to corrosion over time.
Durability: Pure copper rods are more durable in corrosive soils and harsh environmental conditions. This durability can result in a longer effective lifespan, reducing maintenance frequency and long-term operational costs. In contrast, steel-based rods may require more frequent inspection and replacement, particularly in high-salinity or acidic soils.
Although pure copper rods have a higher initial cost, their durability and lower maintenance requirements can make them a more cost-effective option in the long term for high-demand applications, especially in industries like petroleum, petrochemical, and high-speed rail where reliable grounding is critical. The long lifespan and lower maintenance frequency of pure copper can offset the initial investment, providing better value over the product's entire lifecycle.
For large-scale projects with high maintenance costs, the initial expense of pure copper rods could be justified by the savings in reduced maintenance and downtime.
